Botox, also known as Botulinum Toxin A, is a proven safe non-surgical treatment which has been widely used for over 17 years. Treatment involves paralysation of the small muscles, with results lasting for several months, depending on the individual circumstances. Wrinkles are the result of contracting muscles in the forehead, eyes and mouth. Botox eradicates this by preventing movement in the muscles.
King Street Clinic offers Botox treatment on the following areas:
- Forehead Lines Botox
- Crow's Feet (side of the eyes) Botox
- Glabellar Lines (Frown) Botox
- Infra-orbital lines (underneath the eyes - subject to skin condition)
- Chin puckering
- Peri-oral lip lines (lipstick bleed lines - sometimes combined with dermal fillers)
- Nasal flaring
What types of different wrinkles exist?
On the forehead, the most common wrinkles appear in two ways: Vertical lines above the nose are named the glabellar lines, or “the elevens”. These result from common expressions such as squinting scowling, and worrying. Horizontal lines are caused by during times of stress or simply naturally. They can become very deep over time.

As shown here the wrinkles around eyes can have great results.
How does Botox work?
BOtolinum TOXin is an anti-ageing treatment approved for cosmetic use under the name of Vistabel. Doctors all over the world prescribe this treatment to eliminate wrinkles in the upper part of the face including forehead lines, crows’ feet (around the eyes) and frown lines. Botox causes no visible scarring as fine needles are used in the session. Daily activities may be resumed immediately after treatment.
How do I prepare for Botox?
Essentially you may perform your daily activities as usual. Refrain from using any products or cosmetics on the day of treatment, however your skin will be cleaned by the consultant.
How many Botox treatment sessions will I need?
Results are visible within a few days of treatment, however it can take between 14-21 days for maximum results to appear. King Street Clinic recommend repeat treatments at 3-6 monthly intervals to maintain results, as the anti-wrinkle injections are not permanent.
We also recommend the use of SPF30 sun protection cream, following treatment, to protect and maintain the skin.
Regular botox use will ensure that the muscles which cause wrinkles will gradually become thinner, meaning that botox may work more effectively with each subsequent session.
What are the side effects of Botox?
The needles used during treatment are very fine, ensuring that any pain is very mild. Most patients are able to engage in all daily activities immediately after. Some may develop slight bruising where the needle has been placed, but generally no other visible signs will occur.
Rare cases have involved the botox spreading slightly to other muscles and causing drooping of the upper eyelid, for example. This side effect is temporary and should disappear within a few weeks. Botox which is used to treat Hyperhydrosis (Excessive Sweating), may not be fully effective. This is unfortunately an unforeseen circumstance before treatment.
